Essington Rugby Club is delighted to announce our new senior coaching team for the upcoming 2026/27 season, bringing a wealth of experience, fresh ideas, and a clear direction to the club.

Taking the reins as our brand new Head Coach is Steve Ayland. Originally from Wales, Steve moved to the Northampton area where he spent the majority of his playing career. Whilst he featured in various positions across the backline throughout his playing days, he spent most of his career running the game at fly-half or full-back. On the coaching side, Steve brings a comprehensive and proven track record, having coached at every level from grassroots juniors right through to senior adult rugby.

Joining Steve in the senior setup is a very familiar face, Adam Biggins, who officially steps into the role of Assistant and Forwards Coach. After years of dominating scrums on the pitch as a player, Biggins is shifting his expertise to the touchline. He will be working closely with the squad to guide the forwards and build a dominant, hard-working platform for the team to play from.

The new coaching team is already hard at work preparing for the year ahead, and the hard work on the pitch begins next month. Pre-season training officially kicks off on Wednesday 8th July at 7:15pm.
