By

Essington got off to a great start. The back line put Warley under pressure from the kick off, and the resulting ruck saw Stew Russell crash over for the first try of the game, converted by Jack Lynch. Warley pulled three points back from a penalty but Essington were soon on the score sheet again when winger Simon Hylton pounced on a defensive error to score under the posts. Lynch converted. Essington mistakes let Warley back into the game through a series of penalties to leave the score 14 – 9 at half time.
An error from the kick off saw Warley awarded a penalty to reduce the deficit to 14 – 12. Minutes later Warley scored a try originating from their own 22, to take a 14 – 17 lead. This was the spur Essington needed and after 20 minutes or so of playing in the opposition half, a penalty from Jack Lynch made the score 17 – 17. The ensuing Warley kick off was superbly taken by new boy, and eventual man of the match, Kris Ta, who ran 50 metres, evading several tackles, only to be stopped just short of the line. However he managed to offload to centre Lewis Hylton who scored under the posts. The conversion saw the score move on to 24 – 17. Further Essington pressure saw a 5 metre scrum to Warley on their own line, but a mix up in the defence was pounced on by Paul Cowmeadow, 29 – 17. Unfortunately, his easiest kick of the game was missed by Jack Lynch.
With three minutes to go, a Warley penalty in front of the posts took the score to 29 – 20. The final play of the game, saw a series of rucks dubiously won by Warley, finally getting to ball out to the winger to score in the corner. This was unconverted, final score 29 - 25
