A bright start saw Essington exert plenty of pressure on the Aston line, and from a 5 metre line out, Craig Mason powered over for his first try of the game. Finally, the start Essington had been hoping for. Powerful running by flankers Mason and Ross Steadman, supported by excellent rucking by the rest of the pack, gave young scrum half Luke Adams a chance to give the backs quick ball which they used to the full enabling Mowgli Hylton to score for the third week in succession in the unaccustomed role of outside centre. The second half continued in this manner, culminating in Masons second try of the game.
Unaccustomed to the heady heights of being 17-0 up at half time, Essington spent most of the second half making too many errors and being penalised by the referee far too many times. This allowed Aston back in the game and after a period of pressure, finally got the try they deserved. This galvanized Essington to play more as a team again, and a 5 metre scrum saw Mason power over for his hat trick try. An error strewn second half was brought to a close 5 minutes early, with Essington poised to score again, by the referee who had clearly had enough of blowing his whistle constantly. A much better team performance this week. Man of the Match went to Craig Mason, clearly the outstanding player on the pitch, but Ross Steadman, Lewis Hylton and Luke Adams all deserve special mention for their performances.
